The brand name, Doors of Perception, is a nod to Aldous Huxley's book, written under the influence of mescaline, reflecting Cox's own entheogenic interests and personal transformation.
"Doors of Perception is about opening your eyes to a different reality, and that's exactly what I aimed to do with my brand," Cox explains.
From Eyes to Shoes
The brand's journey began with a sweatshirt adorned with 40 embroidered eyes, each meticulously stitched by hand in Ibiza. A gift to his friend, Elizabeth Hurley, sparked instant interest, and Cox's Instagram post gained him a significant following in a matter of minutes. It was a sign, and Cox decided to leverage his expertise in footwear.
Living in Ibiza, Cox found himself drawn to the comfort of Birkenstocks, and thus, the idea for his signature sandal was born. With hand-cast eye buckles and Italian craftsmanship, the Four Eyes sandal became a hit, selling over 500 pairs in the summer of 2023.
A Unique Business Model
Doors of Perception operates on a small scale, with a focus on quality and personal connections. Cox's distribution strategy is largely DTC, with a handful of boutique partnerships, including the Agora boutique at Six Senses Ibiza and a regular pop-up in Gstaad. "Bigger isn't always better, and it certainly doesn't guarantee happiness. I want to grow, but on my terms, and maintain the joy that this brand brings me," Cox emphasizes.

The recent pop-up in London's Notting Hill, Cox's former neighborhood, showcased a collaboration with Kalita, a resortwear label founded by Kalita Al Swaidi. The limited-edition dresses, embroidered with Cox's signature eyes, sold out quickly, highlighting the brand's appeal and the power of creative partnerships.
